Avaya VOIP Telephone Troubleshooting
If your Avaya telephone is inoperative, you can do some simple checks to remedy the situation before contacting the HelpDesk:
Firstly make sure the telephone set is plugged into the wall jack with a LAN cable.
Check that the cable is snuggly connected to the back of the phone. If you turn the phone over, the cable should be connected to the left-most plug and that the cable is snuggly connect to the wall jack.
If the phone is powered on but at the "Login" screen and only allow "Emergency Calls" you need to log in your extension number to the phone. If you have been assigned a Centrex line (ex. 617-349-xxxx), you can log in the line using the last four-digits of your number as the "username" and as the "password". Key in the 4-digit number and press "enter" for both the username and password and the phone will download it's configuration. If you have been assigned an internal number (mostly in school classrooms), you need to key in the full 7-digit number as the username and password (ex. 7942222).
Lastly, if you have noticed that your phone's operation seems a bit slower than normal, it may need a "hard" reset. Unplug the lan cable from the back of the phone and then re-connect the cable and let it reset. Note that this process may take several minutes before it's back in operation.
