User Guide- Avaya Multi-Line Desk Set (model J-169)

DIAL PLAN: Internal Calls (4) or (7) digit extension. Front Offices have Centrex lines while classrooms are generally assigned an internal number, for example 7947+”room#”

Voice Mail Internal:  5000   External: (857) 235-5000
Outside Calls 8 + 1 + 10-digit number 
Emergency 911 or 8 + 911

1. MAKING A CALL:    Pick up the handset or simply start dialing (hands-free) an internal or external number. End the call by replacing the handset or pressing “END CALL” soft key. 
                          To make a call on another line appearance on your phone, press the particular LINE key you want to use.
2. REDIAL:           Press the soft key “REDIAL” button to redial the last previously dialed number
3. ANSWERING A CALL: Lift the handset or press the “ANSWER” soft key. If you have  appearance of other lines on your phone, and simultaneous calls come it, you can select which call to answer by                            pressing the line button, then press “ANSWER” soft key
4. CALL HOLD:        To put a call on hold, press the “HOLD” soft key. To resume the call, press the “RESUME” soft key.
5. TRANSFER- “Blind” Transfer: To transfer a call to another extension, press the “TRANSFER” soft key and dial the “transfer to” extension number and press “CALL”.  
                                    Then press “NOW” soft key and replace the handset. The call is transferred.
        “Announced” Transfer: 
                          a. While on an active call, press “Transfer” soft key.
                          b. Dial the number and press “Call”.
                          c. To initiate a consultative transfer, press “Talk” soft key. The recipient’s phone starts ringing.
                          d. Press “Complete” soft key after the recipient answers the call. The call transfer is complete. 
                             OR
                          e. Press Complete after the recipient’s number starts ringing. The call transfer is complete. 

6. CONFERENCING:  While on a call, presses the soft key “MORE”, then “CONF”. The current call is on HOLD.  Dial the second call. When the party answers. Press the “JOIN” soft key. 
                       To add another party, press the “ADD” soft key and repeat the process (press “MORE”, “CONF” then “JOIN”)
7. VOICEMAIL:     To retrieve a voicemail, press the “Envelop” button (or dial “5000” and enter your voicemail password.


Soft Keys… These are the four keys under the display screen that change depending on the features in use.
           The labels and actions vary depending on the state that the phone displays.  Below is a list of the most common soft keys:

MORE     - Shows additional options
CONF     - Allows you to establish 3 way internal/external conference call.
END CALL - Disconnects you from a call.  Helpful if using HANDSFREE or a headset. 
NEW CALL - Places the call in progress on hold and provides a dial tone for making a new call.  
HOLD     - The HOLD soft key is used to place calls on hold from any line number on your telephone set.
REDIAL   - Allows you to automatically redial the last number dialed.
TRANSFER - Allows you to transfer an active caller to another extension.
